The handle of the hairpin is a gold filigree dragonfly, with its body and two wings inlaid with rubies, and the two feeler ends inlaid with pearls.

The hairpin features elaborate filigree work, with the dragonfly design symbolizing "stable regime of the Qing Dynasty", as "dragonfly" sounds like "Qing Dynasty court" in Chinese.

As one of many Chinese local operas, Yongju Opera is performed in Ningbo dialect in East China's Zhejiang Province. While Yongju Opera's expertise is modern plays, it is also suited for Qing Dynasty costume plays, as well as the cheongsam (traditional Chinese clothes) and modern costume plays. As it is close to modern life, the opera is very cherished and welcomed both the government and the public.
