A pattern for this plate survives, the only complete design for an armorial service to be recorded. It was made for Leake Okeover, whose arms are impaled with those of his wife, Mary Nichol; their conjoined monogram, LMO, appears in cartouches on the rim. Square Yi was popular from the middle Shang Dynasty through the early Western Zhou Dynasty. The distinct characteristic of Square Yi is that its lid and sometimes its knob is cast in the form of the roof of a house. It has a rectangular belly and loop foot.
